08/25/2011 BETHANY, Okla. — Many words can describe a player like Jackie Acevedo, but why waste your breath. Before you even finish her name she’s already blown by you and the clock has stopped and the ball is coming back to the center circle. The senior has undoubtedly prepared herself for this very year, her senior year. Acevedo tied a school record for goals scored in a single game with five against Southwestern Christian, Friday night, as SNU found the back of the net 10 different times in a 10-0 rout of the Eagles. Acevedo tied a record set back on Sept. 6, 1993 by none other than her head coach Julie Duncan who scored five goals that day against McPherson (Kan.). As a team, the Crimson Storm (1-0-0) scored the second most goals in a single game in school history. The most was 17 scored in 1994. Acevedo scored the first three goals in the first 25 minutes of the game as Ericka Ramirez, Sherri Collins and Kayla Thompson all picked up an assist. An own goal in the 47th minute made it 4-0 for the Storm, before Acevedo scored goal number four less than a minute later off a Bekah Stewart assist. Thompson made it 6-0 on a 25-yard shot in the 53rd minute from a Liana Phan assist before Whitney Kloiber hit Mia Vabolis with a pass down field as SNU stretched it to 7-0. Bekah Stewart got on the board for the first time in her career in the 74th minute before Acevedo put the finishing touches on her night with seven minutes left on a McKenzie Redwine assist. Redwine capped the night as Acevedo returned the favor in the 89th minute. SNU took 35 shots and put 20 on goal and forced the Eagle goalkeepers to make 10 saves. Rachel Wade and Taylor James each picked up a save. The Crimson Storm now host Northwood (Texas) for a 4 p.m. contest tomorrow at Wes Harmon Field at the Dr. Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
